travel stories from France by Gai Reid

Here is a short video story about REAL LIFE in the Château du Mauran.

This delightful property sits at the base of the Petit Pyrenees in South West France.

Neil and I were lucky enough to spend a month living at the Château and sharing the lifestyle of its owners Cor and Margaret.

We had the privileged experiences of meeting their friends and helping them entertain!

Paris – always a good idea!

And in Paris we will be – this time next week.

We may be dazed by jet-lag but the energy and beauty of Paris will still be intoxicating.

Neil is a “Paris Virgin” and I can’t wait to show him why I am so in love with this enchanting city.

Our plan is to be out and about, photographing and being dazzled by the history and the beauty that surrounds us. Being the end of winter, the trees will mostly be bare – giving us a clear view of the incredible detail on the architecture and as much warmth as possible from the sun.

We have made plans to meet up with one of my treasured FaceBook friends, Ann Jeanne.

Ann is a very talented photographer and writer. She loves her city and shares her encounters on line.  Neil and I will be dining with Ann and two of her Parisian friends. They are taking us to a traditional French brasserie with some very juicy history!

We will be living like locals in Paris !

If you are a fan of the novelist Hemingway – who lived in Paris during his younger years – you will enjoy this.

We have plenty of adventures planned for our time in France.

After our warm up in Paris, Neil and I will head south, first to visit friends in the village of Bellac, then on to our first house and pet sitting assignment in France.

You can follow our encounters with French life on our site called “Village to Villa”  living like locals

Please leave us your email address so we can keep you in the loop as our French experiences unfold  – good and challenging!

Bonjour Paris!

Return to France

After several years of surviving on memories, photographs, blog posts and FaceBook communications with fellow Francophiles, I am finally returning to France!

Each trip I have taken to France has been unforgettable – for different reasons.  This visit is shaping up to be incredible.

Firstly I will be travelling with my best friend and life partner, Neil.  This will be his first experience of France and I am so so excited about showing him what has created my deep and passionate love of Paris.

Paris Meet Up

Secondly, we have arranged to meet up with one of my treasured FaceBook buddies in Paris  – Ann Jeanne.

Ann is a talented photographer, videographer and writer. She creates beautiful stories about her city – PARIS.

When you are lucky enough to visit Paris, Ann will be your friend in Paris and take you on an enchanting walk to her favourite places.

You can take a peek at her work here:

Neil and I will record a story with Ann, to be included in our series “Village to Villa – living like locals”.

We will keep you posted!

Waking Up in Paris!

Because this is Neil’s first experience of this exquisite city, I have booked us into a hotel that I love.

Hotel de Nice is quintessentially Parisian!  When you wake up and look around your room, there is no other place you could possibly be, but Paris.  This mid-range hotel is brilliantly situated in one of my favourite areas – la Marais which means no matter where you walk from the front door – you will find something amazing.

AND… then there is the food.  Expect some surprises – prepare to be bold in what you taste and you may be very pleasantly surprised!

Bon appetit!

PARIS is the first stop on our “Village to Villa” tour of France, the UK and Italy. We will be living like locals – house and pet sitting until Christmas.  We are documenting our experiences and producing our own television series “VILLAGE TO VILLA”.

Living Like Locals in France….

and Italy…and the UK….and Australia.

In fact just about anywhere in the world where the people know about house sitting.

Bonjour fellow France fans – I’ve been very quiet over the past few months – for a really good reason. My partner Neil and I have been putting together an amazing project and it involves FRANCE!! It’s called “Village to Villa – living like locals”. Over the coming year, we plan to house sit through 4 countries and produce a television series about our experiences. We are doing all of the jobs except editing! After 3 weeks in the gorgeous Adelaide Hills we’ve fallen in love with village life and want to stay. But we will be doing that lot I expect, as we move to more amazing locations. Next March, we head to France. Our first stop is a tiny weeny hamlet near a small village 30 mins from Limoges. More on that when we arrive. Take a look at our project on – LIKE our Facebook page by the same name and join us, we’d love to share this ambitious and fantastic journey and hope to inspire many more to do the same thing. What a great way to see the world from a REAL life perspective.
AND can you believe we discovered this French chateau style villa just a few blocks from where we are staying in the Adelaide Hills!
Have you ever thought about House Sitting?
